I would like feedback on current build, me and my friend are putting this together and I would like input on switching to a intel processor. He thinks the AMD is better, we will not be overclocking. The only two things not included in this is 1. the case which we will be buying at a store open for case suggestions. 2. Graphic card. I am getting two EVGA GeForce GTX 770 DUAL SuperClocked 4GB cards which currently are not available ANYWHERE. I need four in total because I am building gaming rigs for me and my wife. My overall wallet for both is $8000, but would prefer to keep at around $7000.

:) you dont get AMD with high budget like that :) you get a 6 cores i7 lol you can even get a 8 cores Xeon running at 3.1 Ghz ...

and Avoid EVGA cards they are NOISY ... your best Cards are the MSI Twinfrozors or the Lightnings.

I will be back in a minute :)

agreed on the above, also 32GB ram is pointless for gaming. The 8350 is a great chip, but only if you can't afford better really... Gigabyte, MSI or Asus for the graphics cards I would say. Also that build won't need 1300w at all... save $100 and get an 850w power supply or thereabouts.

If you save money by going to 256GB SSD, 850w power supply, you might be able to fit 780s in the price bracket which would be insane :D

Well considering EVGA is sold out on graphic cards that I want, do you have a top pick over the other three? gigabyte or MSI? Yeah I understand 32 is pointless but its cheap so I'm cool with it, the wife is attempting to start making and messing around with music.

Would you have a better processor/mobo suggestion? I don;t know why hes stuck on the AMD. But hey I was origianlly building a falcon and with his help to build these its turned into waay better haha.

GIGABYTE GV-N770OC-4GD GeForce GTX 770 4GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready Video Card
Four of these are actually available unlike the EVGA, I think he liked the lifetime warrenty thing on evga or wahtever it was. MSI or GIGA?

OK, well I've heard great things about the gigabyte cooler, so would probably choose that, but honestly, just the cheapest/most easily available of the three would be fine. Or the ones with 4GB memory haha.

Considering the high budget, 4770K on a maximus VI board would be awesome, but will cost more, so you would probably want to make room how I mentioned before (RAM, SSD and PSU). Otherwise, if it can wait, Ivy Bridge-E on a X89 Platform would be awesome :D

I would recommend a 4770 or 4670 with either the stock cooler or a ~$30 cooler (CM 120M or Hyper 212 Evo). For storage, a 256 GB SSD and a 7200RPM Hard drive (maybe a Caviar Black or Barracuda). Get a good motherboard with 8 to 16 GB of RAM. And for the GPU, two 770s.

Subtotal: $5,837.75 is my total so far including everything but the cases. (no case ikr? haha). Yeah I considered a 4770k on the VI or the giga g1. sniper not sure which was better. But may end up sticking with the AMD. It's not even the fact about money he just seriously says the AMD is better and I won't be dissapointed hard to argue with that. Gah! I would assume switching to intel would be aprox 200-300 increase really not huge at all.

I have a 500 GB ssd for hard drive and a 2 TB for storage. GPU is the two 770s and I have a choice between MSI or GIGA for those.

ego build but anyway you have no need for a 1300 watt power supply. no need for dual graphics. no need for 32gb of ram either. i mean come on you are gaming at 1080p not something like 5760x1080p. a single 770 would do the trick. the whole computer with dual gpus and an intel cpu would run a a 650 watt psu if you wanted to let alone a 1300w psu.

just because you can afford a 3500 dollar pc doesnt mean you need it lol. i could spend less then half that and get the same performance as you would at 3500.

Looks like we are staying AMD, doesn't matter to much if I decide to change it out later on in a couple years. Mobo/proccessor/memory. This guy is already not only making me a better pc but saving me over a $2000+ total. I was orignally having falcon build us computers and I wasn't getting nearly as much. They wanted 4k for way less then what im showing you guys right now lol. So any other suggestions minus the proccessor? I notice a lot are saying we don't need the huge 1300W. The graphic card itself says one requires 600w..

Also apparently the Antec is the best according to him for power supply. He said 1100w would be fine but they do not have anything it jumps from 850 to the 1300 becuse the 1200 got dc'd

you said 4 SLI , do you think a low AMD can catch up to that?

AMD cant beat i5 overclocked ...

PLUS it is not PCI express 3.0 , it is 2.0 ...

those cards 4 of them will need PCIe 3.0 for full throttle .

tell me please how much exactly you want to pay , and I will make you the better machine . BUT I cant decide like that when you dont kknow waht you want , it will take me 30 minutes to find the best solution for you and I am not doing it when you dont know exactly what you want.

give me :

1- the REAL true budget you want to pay .

2- The parts you want FIXED .

3- The type of Monitors you need.

4- and be sure , I am doing this for free . and I Cant waste my time for free on oops i want that and oops I dont want that.

thanks :)

This is a 2 way sli on each computer, I would like it to be capable of atleast 3 for future upgrades. 4 cards because I am building two machines.
1- the REAL true budget you want to pay . $3500 total including monitor, with a $200 extra if absolutely needed.

2- The parts you want FIXED . I just want the best of the best, on everything. I do not need anything downgraded.. IE 32 ram 500 ssd etc. I am all about upgrades though. If you choose the Intel proccessor I need a new MOBO/RAM to go with it.

3- The type of Monitors you need. We have 2 27 inch picked out.

4- If you do what you say you will be marked as the solution! :) I really appreciate it. The only thing I can add is he is adamant about the power supply being antec and the watt being atleast 1100.. We are also using newegg but I do not mind splitting between newegg/amazon. Also if it doesn't make it infinitely harder for you I WOULD like to see your AMD version and the intel version. Again.. what I want is the best. This isn't a "ego" thing its a.. I have the money and to much of it.

Also are you saying the AMD is limited to 2.0 vs the 3.0? If you can give me more insight to the differance I'd appreciate it. If i think we are talking about the same thing the 3.0 is "newer" technology obviously.. If that's the case intel is a must.

ok , I a, back and will start looking ,

DONT order that monitor it is one of the worse you can get . Cancel the order if you can .

when you pay 3500$ for a Machine you dont go for low enf 250$ monitor , you choose at least 400-600$ worth monitor and it is WORTH IT.

1- there are 16 million colors monitor , and there are 1.1 Billion colors moniotrs .
2- There are 2560x1600 Resolution Monitors , and as well 2560x1440 , you picked low FHD ...
3- there are full color Gamut 100% REAL color monitors you picked some 50% one
4- there are monitors optimized for Gaming and there are montors good for Everything.

Cancel that Monitor.

and by the way I am doing this for fun , not for badges or anything , I just need the badge so people trust my opinion more not to show off.

When it says the graphics card need 600w, it means TOTAL not just for the graphics card itself. Only around 200w max is used by a single graphics card.
1300w would hold 4 titans with power to spare.

About that build :

1- the i7-3930K is a 6 core CPU than can be Overclocked to 4.6 with ease and can reach 4.8 max using Air cooling .. it has 12 Threads and 40 lanes PCI express (which means it can handle True dual 16X SLI and True 4 way 8X SLI ... in comparison to the Haswell and normal CPU , they have only 16 lanes ... they are capable ONLY of true 8x , 8x SLI , and the mobos that give 4 way shares the bus usling PLX chips , meaning a $ way SLI on a Haswell is for real 4x 4x 4x 4x ...

Plus this CPU is a Monster when overclocked to 4.6 , has Quad Channed Memory VS dual Channed on Other low CPU (AMD or HAswell).

2- The Mother board , this mother board is the cheapest that can give 4 way SLI and at the same time overclocks well . there is a better one comes with Wifi and C602 chipset instead of X79 ,and 2 Lans , and 3 SLI ... it is 50$ more I can add it if you want it.
another thing , this motherboard can take upto 8 memory slots , giving you upto 64G of ram Total .

3- Added 32 G 4x8G=32 , this is taken from Compatability list so dont change the Ram models , and since it is quad channel , you add them in pairs.

4-instead of one 512 G SSD , 2 of them at 256 size , and you make them in Raid 0 , this will give you 1G/s Read write speed . and be sure to connect them ONLY to X79 chipset Sata 3 and not the others , it is faster , and has TRIM support which is very important for SSD Raid.

5- That Seagate Harddisk has 5 years warranty and is better quality .

6- when you can get GTX 780 for 610$ thats only 110$ above the GTX 770 4G , it is stupd not to go GTX 780 ... and 3G is enough for the future , PLUS the GTX 780 is the new chip , uses the Titan chip ... the GTX 770 is the same old GTX 680 chip.

7- This sound card runs at 116 dba SNR , onboard sound run at 100 only ... every 3 db SNR more means Double the sound Quality , so this card gives you 10 times better sound than onboard sound .. there is an 124 SNR card called sound blaster ZXR but it is 100$ more .. if you want it Add it .

8- for an expensive machine , you must choose a good looking case ... and this case is the best and has 50$ discount .. if you dont like it I get another one ...

here is a look at it

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9e4KF0uHKo

9- 1300 watt power supply is not needed I know , but when you find a good one and GOLD rated and full Modular for 70$ less than others .. you STEAL it ... and will come handy if you add a third GTX 780

10- that plextor is the best DVD writer on the market.

11- The Eizo Foris 2333 , is the best even IPS monitor made for Gamers .. nothing is like it .. and the colors are good an accurate and it is a Japanese well known Monitor , comes with 5 years warranty and works at 3.5 ms only for an IPS thats wonderfull , has 178 veiwing angles ,
my Idea is to get this one and later add 2 of them for 3 monitors ..

you can however get a 30 inch 2560 x 1600 monitor , from DELL which is at 1000$ and has full 1 billion colors .. but That is alot for your budget

and I think Three eizo foris 2333 is better for you in near future ..

Finally , I chosen Ncuta cooler for one reason , it is more silent , if you want water vooling and H100i , you should change the fans they are noisy ...

or better than H100i , the Swiftech H220 ...

tell me what you think

see you later.

So yeah I def would like to use the ivy or haswell but which is better?we can use the same memory you suggested but I would like a top mobo. Even the i5 seems to kill the amd I just fancy the i7 more but don't think we need the 3990 or whatever

Also things are transitioning to 3.0 vs 2.0 so 3.0 would be a plus..

cbrunnem

Distinguished
there is two machines. one is the one described above and one is the one described above except it has a haswell i7. the one with the haswell i7 is faster. you are wasting your money getting the 3930k.

dual x8 vs dual x16 is negligable. you will never notice the difference as there is barely a difference.

you will never get 1Gb/s per second through a sata III port. its capped at 750 mb/s.

SNA3

Honorable

you dont get it , to have 3 way SLI on haswell , you will need a 350$ to 400$ motherboard , because the Haswell or IVY CANT do it , so you lost the 6 cores for nothing ... you paid it in the motherboard difference :)

READ Carefully AGAIN , There are 2 kinds of chips from intel , "e" for the better and with 40 Lanes of PCI express , and the Regular no "e" at end for low 16 Lanes only...

The 16 lanes only can give you no 3 ways SLI what so ever , and cant even Give you true 16x , 16x 2 SLI at all

they have total of 16 , so it splits into 8x and 8x . when you want more , the Motherboard makers ADD a chip for Virtual and not real lanes, they SHARE each 8x with Electrical 8X and not True 8x , they will both run sharingthe 8x ..

they claim they gave you 8x 8x 8x 8x while it is 4x 4x 4x 4x in real , and to do it , they add expenisve chip and raise the mother board price to 350 or 450

this raise in price you dont need at all when you get a 40 lanes CPU , that will give you 16x , 16x ,8x , or 8x,8x,8x,8x FOR REAL and not Virtual at normal mother board cost.

now if you dont want 6 cores "e" cpu , fine there are 4 cores "e" CPU with 40 lanes , it is also cheap the same price of the i7 haswell 4 cores , but I chosen the 6 cores because it is the only one unlocked for Overclocking .. if you want the 40 lanes 3.6 GHZ SandyBridge - e , you can have it and without over clock,

The Bottom line here is , by Going Hswell or ivy and Buying the Higher mother bord for SLI , you are paying the same PRrice of the 6 Cores with regular Mothrboard .

any one who knows what he is doing use the 40 lanes CPU for high epensive machines and 3 or 4 ways SLI set up

you will not save money getting the lower CPU , you will put 100$ in the Motherboard ..

and if you want , I can replace that 6 cores with 4 cores , on the same components ,

this CPU

http://www.microcenter.com/product/383144/Core_i7_3820_36GHz_LGA_2011_Boxed_Processor

i7 3820 , 40 lanes , running at 3.6 but no over clocking..
