Quick front usb 3.0 question

I recently received my Bitfenix Shinobi case for my first build, and included are 2 front mounted USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 plugs. The USB 2.0 connection to my mobo is simple enough, but running off the 20-pin USB 3.0 plug is an additional USB 2.0 plug dangling off the back of the 20-pin. My question is it necessary to plug this additional USB 2.0 into the mobo also, or is it just there in case I wanted to run the USB 3.0 ports as USB 2.0 instead, for whatever reason. Sorry if this is difficult to understand, proof reading on a phone is a little challenging, but its my only connection to the internet atm. Thanks.

  1. what is your motherboard model ? 3.0 USB supported in it ?
  2. Sorry, to be more clear, there is a cord running from the front panel USB 3.0 jacks to a 20-pin USB 3.0 connector. Dangling off the back of that connector, is an additional USB 2.0 connector. My question is: is it necessary to plug in that usb2 connector in addition to the 20-pin usb3, or is it only for using the front panel usb3 jacks as usb2 instead, possibly in case someone had a motherboard without usb3 connectivity. Thanks.

" it's only for using the front panel usb3 jacks as usb2 instead" that's is buddy , if you have an 3.0 USB Motherboard then plug it into the usb 3.0 connector if you need the 3.0 USB , if your motherboard is not an 3.0 usb motherboard , then plug it into the usb 2.0 connector to get more jacks .

Yes, I have an Asus Maximus VI Hero. My question is pertaining to the extra usb2 connector attached to the usb3 connector. I'm not the most tech literate person out there, and I apologize for that. I wish I could just post a picture...
