tested it on crystaldiskmark - plugged it to my z77 board's native usb3.0 port and it gave me these shitty results.

any idea why? if both are 30+mb/s it makes sense, cos it might be on usb2.0,, but it isn't.

i have another WD passport essential usb3.0 which shows perfectly normal results though.

Even I have this slow usb 3.0 transfer rate with my WD My Passport 1TB drive and I am using Windows 8 pro. What I found was Whenever I boot into Windows 8 after a proper shutdown in previous session the transfer speed is 24 MB/s and if I restart the system and boot into Windows 8 transfer speed improves to 60-52 MB/s.May be its a Windows 8 issue.

You can find the details of various tests I did in this thread http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1750775/slow-usb-transfer-rate.html

I just go a Seagate 3TB expansion drive and I'm seeing the same crappy performance. :(

Have you done any large file copies? Have you noticed that even though dirty cache is turned on that you can't turn it off? Also, that when you copy multiple large files it appears that dirty cache isn't working? It is as if Seagate limited the amount of memory used for caching and there isn't any large 'boost' when starting a copy as you see with other drives as the cache fills up.

I tried to get answers from Seagate but they played the game of avoiding the question by giving stock answers that had nothing to do with what I was asking. :(
