I've been having issues with my 6 month old rig which has an AMD FX 6100 processor inside, and I think it's time to upgrade. I was thinking of getting an AMD FX8350 for about £150 but I'm not sure if it will make a difference?

Solution
AMD Pilediver FX-8350 has improve the efficiency compared w/ FX-6100. So the gaming experience will improved. (FX-41xx/61xx/62xx/81xx CPUs are based on bulldozer architecture but suffered severely from low efficiency per clock speed, even older Phenom II X6 1090T beats FX-6100)

However, At the end of this year there would be steamroller FX- CPU and it would bring greater improvement of the CPU processing power than from Bulldozer(e.g.FX-8150) to Pilediver(e.g. FX-8350).

Right now if u possess a 970/990X mobo FX-8350 would be a good choice. Don't forget to add a third-party CPU cooler if u plan to overclock.

Thank you for the quick replu Maxime506. I see what you're saying and I'm not sure If I really would need to OC the 8350 as it is 4.0GHz stock without overdrive. I plan to buy a new cooling system anyways, preferably a water cooling system as that seems to cool down components very well. So my FX6100 is about 40% slower than the FX8350 that I could get, is that right? Also with that in mind, will I get higher FPS rates when playing these games I've named?

If these games are tending to be CPU intensive the fps will improved.

It depends, FX-8350 is a good OC monster if u can keep the temperature down. W/ water cooler it could reach 4.8-5.0Ghz, I think. But be cautious while OC'ing and follow the procedures carefully.

Yeah it seems the FX series are really well OC'd if you have the correct cooling components. I think that water cooling will keep the temperatures down if I did choose to OC the FX8350 so that's good to know, and the games I intend to play are Arma 3, GTA V, DayZ standalone and Battlefield 3/4.

Most of your games like BF3/4, GTA5 will be CPU intensive esp. for BF3 multiplayer. FX-8350 may be not as strong as single core performance of an i5/i7 but 8 cores will handle these CPU intensive pretty smooth.

IF u go on OC, make sure the mobo is 990X/990FX chipset (970 chipset is good for light OC'ing but not recommend for 8350 to OC to 4.4/4.5+ Ghz) and has sufficient phases design to support intensive OC.
