Hello-

I have a 500GB ADATA NH92 external drive that I use to store all my stuff.

Yesterday all my files were present and accounted for, but this morning when I plugged it in to my MacBook Pro the hard drive is wiped clean.

The drive mounts fine on the system and is recognized by the computer but it reads it as a completely free and clear drive. What happened to my stuff, can I get it back?
I really really need my files back it has all of my Grad School work for the last two years on it, please help!

Did you try to connect the drive to another computer? Just in case the problem is with your MacBook Pro. If you still don't see your files on another computer, I would try with a "undelete" software to see if it can recover them.

But just so that you know, if the data contained on that drive was important to you, it's not safe to have it on a unique location, because if the drive fails you loose everything, so you need to have at least a copy of your files elsewhere. Of course, if it's a mechanical problem with the drive it can always be repaired, but data recovery companies usually charge between 500$ and 1000$ for the salvage.

MC_K7 -
I did try and connect it to another Mac and got the same result. The drive mounted and was totally clean. I'm currently at work and I do have a back-up drive at home but I can't remember if I backed up this external HD or not, not smart I know.
What is a good "undelete" software that is Mac based.... from my research most seem to be PC based.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I'm a PC guy, I don't know much about Macs. I know they're using a different file system, so not sure what steps or software could be used to recover this. You would have to ask a Mac expert.

But from the start there's a possibility that's it's a failure with the drive itself so no guarantee it can be recovered (except with a data recovery company but as I said they're expensive).

I have the same problem, what can I use to "undelete" for a PC external hard drive? It's a 1TB Seagate.
