Mixing different sticks of RAM?

So when i built my pc about a month ago the motherboard i ordered came with a free 8Gb stick of RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148661), and that motherboard died so i tried to RMA it with Newegg and they wouldn't take it, so unfortunately i'm having to buy a new motherboard. Once again, Newegg is offering free 8Gb sticks of RAM but its a different model (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148540). I want to know if it would be possible to mix the two sticks of RAM, or if there's something you can tweak in BIOS to make them work. Thanks in advance for the help.

Normally mixing different sticks of memory is a bad idea, but those two sticks look to be nearly identical. I'd have to take a look at the spec sheet to be certain but it appears that the only difference is in the height of the module. The chips themselves are probably the same.

EDIT: the first stick is rated at 1.35 volts, but it should run at 1.5 volts without issue.

Most likely. I cannot speak for all DRAM manufacturers but Micron uses the same die for DDR3 and DDR3L DRAM chips. High quality chips are separated during the testing process and marketed for low voltage memory modules while the remainder are marketed for standard modules. They are otherwise identical as they all come from the same source. This means that all 1.35 volt modules (from Micron anyway) will run just fine at 1.5 volts.

I'm going to start by saying don't mix RAM unless you have absolutely no choice. The hassle of configuring them to work together is more trouble than it is worth, especially since RAM is generally so inexpensive.

If you must mix n match, just try it. You might get a blue screen on start up but no harm will come to your computer. It's just unpleasant. If they work well together the two sticks will run at the speed of slower module. [Not recommended]

TIP: Buy another stick of one of the two you already have, preferably the faster one. [Highly recommended]

Hi, OP here. I have now been running these two different sticks of Ram for 4-5 months and have never had any issues. They both run fast, cool, and efficient. So if anyone is in a similar situation, it has worked out fine for me thus far.
