Solution

If you are with AT&T or Bell, yes you will get a router/modem combo that comes with the internet package, but it doesn't help if i don't know the model number.

And again, i cant really help you diagnose your issue until you can...

You mentioned steam so i'm going to assume you play video games. If you are trying to game, and your brother is on the internet surfing normally, you WILL experience lag. If your router does not have a QoS engine, it will prioritize your brothers traffic over yours. Using a proxy will only get you so far, and if you really want to fix the issue i would look towards your router.

What model of router do you have? Can you give me the specs on what internet package you also have?

actually the router comes with the internet plan and it has the telecom company's logo on it i don't think i can know the brand from the outside but anyways what i was talking about was not lag or gaming issue i just mentioned steam because i could connect to it while i couldnt connect to any other website my problem is that at random intervals my internet connection would just drop completely for 1-5 minutes and sometimes longer which makes me unable to connect to any website while my brother can surf the web

And again, i cant really help you diagnose your issue until you can get me more info. What happens to the router when you lose connection? Are there any specific lights flashing? Any of them go out completely or change color? If you have a seperate modem, what do those lights say?

Every little detail you can give me will help
