Overclocking by only changing multiplier - core voltage on MSI g45 z87 board. Voltage set on adaptive/ dynamic. Im running on 8.1 preview so the os is a bit unstable. Test runing cinebench:

Stock 4670k
29.5 fps/6.31 pts
temps hitting 71c

4670k @ 40x @ 1.14:
29.56 fps/6.77 pts (7% increase in pts)
temps hitting 73c

4670k @ 41x @ 1.145:
29.78 fps/6.95 pts (10% increase in pts over stock)
temps hitting 75, 76c.

4670k @ 42x @ 1.145:
crashed on cpu test.

4670k @ 42x @ 1.15:
29.87 fps/7.10 pts
temps hitting 79c

Note: Even though i set up voltage, system automatically adds 0.005 volts, so when i set on 1.145v cpu-z is reporting 1.15v, so the offset is 0.005.
Note2: ambient temps are ~30c

intel burn test (IBT) is one the best stressing software for system stability.
It's produce more heat than prime 95, due to faster testing.
If you have to test with prime95 for absolute stable at least for 24 hours, with ibt you'll just run it 25 loop at maximum stress level.
This software almost to be "must run" software for overclocking stability testing.

If your cooling system cannot handle the heat when stressing with ibt, that's means your system do not have enough cooling system..

Hyper tx3 is low end cooling system. just a few degrees cooler than stock cooling.
and haswell is a (very) hot cpu. hotter than sandy and ivy...
That's means, at overclocking state, your cpu will overheated with any stressing software

How could you...

Question:
I installed IntelBurnTest for stability testing and it hit 100c in about 5 seconds so i immediately stoped the test, afraid of not burning the chip.
Can you recommend some stability tester that will not be so hard on temps and yet perform a stability test? After listening to the ASUS guy on youtube i don't want to run prime95.

How could you use a low end HSF for such a high end CPU?
i suggest you to get better HSF.
cm 212+ @ $20, much much better that hyper tx3.

i mean CM 212+, not 212 evo version.
cm 212+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065
cm 212 evo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

cm 212 evo just 1'c-2'c cooler than original cm 212+ but more pricey. $14 for 2'c difference is not worthed..

i've upgrade from ocz vedetta original (which is better than tx3 around 3-5'c) to cm 212+, and i get 8-12'c lower temperature.

so, for best scenario (for example: dual fan, push and pull at maximum speed), you'll get 17'c lower temperature with cm 212+ (at full load), than your current cooler..

well, if you wan to keep tx3 cooler, then i suggest you to run it at stock clock.. :)

Well i won't spend almost 40$ for 5-7c lower temps. Plus i don't like the idea of having such weight on the motherboard. This TX3 evo performs excellent for its price and does not put a strain on the board and takes little space. I just ran intelburntest on stock cpu speeds and it hit 99c with a cooler thats 5-10c cooler then stock cooler. First time buying a high end intel rig and i am a bit disapointed. Although, the voltage and speed management is excellent and the things you can customize... Impressive.
I think i'm going to stick to 4ghz during these summer heats and will go 4.2-4.4 in the cold winter days.
The only thing im not so happy about is this !@#$ windows 8.1. Cant tell if crashed from unstable os or bad oc.
