You should check with your motherboard manufacturer. Often times a BIOS update will allow for pin-compatible and power compatible chips to run on oldr boards.
If you are buying new with only the Ivy bridge chip, it is not wise to select an older board. You will need it to work out of the box in that case.

Yes the H61 boards are IB compatible if there is a BIOS update for them available. Here's an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131967
