I have a video surveillance DVR that I recently removed the HD from because the machine was not responding to any of the menu buttons or the remote control. I need to retrieve some video footage from the HD, but when I look at the files on the HD with a Linux machine, it has folders listed as dates and then the folders are filled with various .log files. Are these possibly video files I can somehow retrieve?

I couldn't find the specs for that specific model, but for the GS2111 8CH (follow on model), the video files are h.264 encoded, MPEG or MPEG4 wrapper.

So any video files would probably be *.mpg or *.mpeg.

Of the .log files, they should be straight ascii text. If not (hex or similar), it may well be the actual video or parts thereof.

It is a GS2106DV-8CH 8 Channels DVR w/ DVD-RW & built-in VGA. I don't see any other files besides the .log files on the hard drive, so I might be out of luck?
