Gold is more energy efficient than bronze meaning that a gold rated PSU will draw less power from the outlet then a bronze model when it delivers the same wattage to the system. Depending on the difference in price between the two models and the energy costs in your region, it may or my not be beneficial to go with a 80 plus gold rated PSU.

Gold rated PSUs are typically manufactured with higher quality parts but it isn't necessarily true that they will have a greater lifespan since there are plenty of high quality bronze rated models as well.

It all depends on the brand mainly, although you can still buy a good brand and it dies. Its all luck of the draw. Gold efficiency has nothing to do with reliability.
