My office is replacing my computer. I was recommended a situation where the primary drive is a SSD (for programs) and HDDs in a RAID 5 for storage and back up. I frequently process very large data sets and am wondering if there will be any issues? I have spec'd out two configurations with 32GB or 64GB so memory shouldn't be an issue. I am assuming the processing of data will happen on the SSD (1st drive, since that is where programs reside), and know the output(s) will be to the RAID. My question is, will there be any negative performance or (most importantly) outright problems with processing data on a SSD and writing out to the HDD? The normal workflow would be- data will come from the RAID, processed on the SSD, and written back out to the RAID.
