Overclocking Voltage Question

So I have learned quite a bit about OCing in the past months, but in my attempts to push my OC further (Big time Mobo limitations for OCing) I almost screwed it up to where I could not fix it. My Bios screen kept freezing on the overclocking menu, but I fixed it.

Here's my question though. I have a MSI Z77-G41 so the ONLY Voltage option I have is +.04-.16 I used to have to have it at +.16 (With the clock multi set to 45 so its at 4.5 GHz) which set me to around 1.32 Volts max. Which is stupidly high, so I must have gotten a poor OCing 3570k. But somehow I got it to a stable 4.5 with voltage set to auto. So is it safe for the voltage to vary that much? It obviously improves idle temps a lot.

I know that was confusing so I can clarify if need be.
