Hello Toms,

I purchased a motherboard from Newegg that came with some free RAM. I was under the impression that the RAM was 2x4gb but it turns out its 1x8gb.

How effective is dual channel on the AMD platform? I've read something somewhere suggesting that dual channel only has a substantial advantage over single channel on Intel.

How true is this, and what kind of performance losses am I looking at by not running dual channel

Thanks,

Ideally dual channel will show gains of 10-15%, but with AMD it's generall more like 5-9% so you won't really be losing much...and in the future if you upgrade, will have both dual channel and twice the DRAM - a win-win
