I'm attempting my 1st ever build, so any and all input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Approximate Purchase Date: asap

Budget Range: ~$600 for the tower, but I’m willing to pay extra for added value if there is a good deal to be had

System Usage from Most to Least Important: surfing the internet, gaming, watching movies (HD-capable media center)

Are you buying a monitor: Yes, as well as speakers (neither included in budget)

Parts to Upgrade: everything (new build);
specifically: case, power source, motherboard, hard drive, memory, graphics card, optical drive, wi-fi, (basic) keyboard & mouse

Do you need to buy OS: No (most likely Windows 7)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: no preference; can do Microcenter in-store pickups

Location: Boston, MA

Parts Preferences: no preference

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: TBD, perhaps 1080 res, 20-30"

Additional Comments:
Software: gaming- think Skyrim on medium-to-high settings; basic audio recording/editing; being able to run something like Autodesk software without dying would be an bonus
Also looking for opinions on reasonableness of putting the OS on a SSD (alternative build).

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: trusty college laptop died; want something that will serve as a nice, if modest, entertainment and general use machine with a long life

Don't bump posts. - G

The AMD A10 is the most cost effective but does not provide a GPU. The FX-6350 is a much stronger CPU, but the Pentium G and Radeon 7850 is a bit more expensive but will provide the best CPU / GPU ratio for that budget.
