I recently had a stop error right before my computer crashed. On reboot the computer froze at the motherboard logo. After trial and error I was able to get the computer to boot when I removed 1 of the sticks of ram. I have 2 ram slots. When I move the working stick to the other slot. The computer will hang before the startup repair loads. So did the ram damage my motherboard when it died or did something go wrong with my motherboard and kill the stick of ram? Why will the one good stick work in one slot but not the other?

Electronically speaking RAM does not have a power source, so it cannot really damage anything.
- Unless current passes through it and isn't handled correctly on the way back.

If you were not over-volting the RAM, or in any other way running it beyond spec then the RAM probably just died.
There's heaps of defective memory sticks out there... so many that Bill Gates even ranted about it.

The stick was probably defective before it stopped working.

I believe my motherboard must be bad as well. The working stick of ram only works in DIMM 2. It will not work in DIMM 1. It works but windows will never load. windows startup repair starts to load but never does. If I put the ram in DIMM 2 it boots up fine. The ram appears to be working fine in the bios in either slot.
