i am a bit nervous for the future for my alienware x51

like i talked to my friend and he said he doubt very much that the alienware x51 can support newer GTX's like the 800-900 or the 1000 series in the future, cause of the PSU that the alienware x51 have (cause its ungreatable)

is that true i mean it would really be shame that alienware x51 will stick with the GTX 670 forever

i mean i didnt buy the alienware x51 my parents did for my birthday i asked for a pc didnt know they would get me the x51 lol

please reply im really really nervous right now!

Touché.

It is inevitable that there will be future video cards with higher performance within that power bracket..
- The next 18 to 24 months it might be slow going in that area, but within 36 months there should be PCI Express x16 cards that use much less power than a GTX670 and have much higher performance.

Question is: Do you need to buy a Dell/Alienware video card for some restrictive reason?
- I doubt it, as Dell learned -a little- from their past mistakes.
- They wouldn't be stupid enough to tarnish the Alienware brand... at least I give them that much credit.
It's made by Dell, even if it could technically support it (power, pin, electronically, etc. compatible) you just know, deep down, that it's not going to.

Laptops are not designed to be upgraded; I'd just be extremely grateful you have a portable machine with a GTX670M and didn't have to pay a cent for it.

As such when buying a laptop go for the best CPU and GPU within your budget (since you cannot upgrade them later without paying through the roof!), it sounds like your parents did some research beforehand as the GTX670M is still an excellent mobile GPU.

RAM and SSD/HDD are the only real viable laptop upgrades in this day and age.

While it's Dell, it's still Alienware at heart (and one of the better Alienware models).
By laptop standards it's about as futureproof as you can get with a local warranty, etc.
