Good day,

This is my first question after reading the forum for years :)

On to the problem at hand, I have had this soundcard for over a year now, I upgraded my system about 7 months ago. I did not give the soundcard to the guys that built the pc on my behalf (same store I bought from). So I added it later, to my surprise it did not work (I initially had the same problem with the card in my old pc as well...) The card tells me it requires power even after being connected with a molex to the PSU.

I have found that it needs a 4 pin connector, since my old pc had one that was plugged into the card.

What I would like to know is this really what the reason is for the lack of power?

Is it settings I need to change in my BIOS?

Can I keep my on board soundcard active and have the Essence work at the same time or do I have to disable the on board soundcard?

If yes how would I disable the onboard in the BIOS?

My motherboard is the ASUS P8Z77 Pro
Soundcard is Asus Essence STX
Windows 8 - In Windows 8 I can usually select which audio device I want to use by right clicking sound and selecting playback devices and just make a new one default.

I was hoping I could do the above mentioned with regards to switching between the Soundcard and the on board, if possible.

Thanks in advance:bounce:

the board usually detects the sound can and should automatically enable it after boot-up and driver install. Sometimes you need to disable the onboard in the BIOS. Sometimes looking into control panel/sound you can set it to run.

did you try the card in another pci-e slot? even a 4x or 8x slot will do. ( I see there are 2 1x on the board. you can pull your video card for the time being and run off on-board video if possible to clear that slot for testing.)

the power, try another molex plug ot perhaps the 1x slot you have the card in isn't supplying enough power.

if the sound through HDMI is enabled you can have problems. control panel/sound-disable HDMI or uninstall it from the device manager... ( you should disable windows auto updates and windows auto driver updates or it will install it automatically )

let me know what happens.
