Hi there

Not sure if this is in the right place or not but I recieved my GTX660 today however I don't know where to plug the power in for it. I did research to see if it was compatible with my motherboard (N68 VS3 FX) and it should be.

Solution

find those coming out of power supply and connect 2 of them to the Adapter

make sure they are 2 separate cables.

tell me the watt of your power supply please
Normally, those two molex adapters would be plugged into the PSU, assuming the PSU does not have the requisite 6-pin PCIe cable.
HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your PSU does not have at least one PCIe power cable, chances are it is not sufficiently powerful (particularly on +12V), regardless of what its label says to run a graphics card; attempting to do so may kill it, and cheap PSUs, when they die, have a nasty tendency to take other parts (e.g. your nice new graphics card, or maybe your motherboard) into the fiery abyss with them when they die. What brand and model (not just wattage) is your PSU?

Well previously I ran an AMD 6670 2Gb which didn't need the same connectors as the gtx660. The make and model of the PSU is a PowerX3 ATX-450204

yeah it is generally recommended that the graphics card is plugged directly into the power supply (without the use of adapters)

but not all powers supply units have the correct plugs for a graphics card which is why they give you adapters

and if you cant find any spare 3 pins to connect it to.. sounds like you have a very low end power supply and you should look to upgrade before even attempting to use the card

not necessary , if the Watt on the 12V is enough it will work EVEN without the 6 pin adapter .

So if i have to go for a new PSU which seems to be the case as i cant find any of the adaptors coming from the psu itself then which would be the PSU to go for?

perhaps something around the 500 - 550 watt by brands such as seasonic, antec or corsair. do not get a random no name psu 1. because alot of them advertise their "max wattage" and not the wattage they can actually run steady at and 2. the power supply is the most important part of the pc, if it frys... so can all your other stuff! lol

also its generally best to get something 80+ certified ..

Wrong. A graphics card with a PCIe power connection MUST be given power through that connection, either using a PCIe power cable, or an adapter. Some graphics cards have shriekers that will scream at you for not connecting adequate power, or they'll do something like max their fans to let you know something is wrong (my GTX650Ti does the latter).

A GTX660 is not an extremely power-hungry card, but it needs more than the 75W that the mobo slot provides.
An Antec VP-450 would be a relatively inexpensive but quality choice. A 500W Earthwatts would be a little better. A modular version of the Corsair CX would be good (the non-modular ones use some inferior Samxon capacitors), or a Rosewill Capstone.
Your original "500W" PSU appears to be cheap Chinese junk. I would not try to pull more than 300W from it and expect it to live.

"At 50 per cent load, the Power X's voltages were witin the ATX specification. Average efficiency was the lowest in the group at 71 per cent. Once we increased the load to 75 per cent, the PSU ran for five seconds before exploding spectacularly."

haha wow

here is a good 500 watt power supply from EVGA , it is discounted to 24$ only and it is Bronze and enough for your card.
