I'm buying an ASUS P9X79 Pro Mobo for a new build and have gotten a lot of input.

I'm abit confused about RAM choice... the G.Skill Ripjaw Z series isn't listed on the ASUS site as compatible, but I know of several people using it and it's recommended by the folks at Videoguys

(I IM'ed ASUS support... he simply said "it's not listed" )

I'm also not sure of the benefit of 1866 over 1600 and CAS 9 over 10...

Suggestions?

Bear in mind Intel only supports CAS 11 DDR3-1600 at stock voltages on X79. Anything higher is defined as overclocked and may require manual tuning (XMP or otherwise).

Stick with a single kit rated at the timings and density you wish to run.

100% agreed :) The RipJaw Z's are an great pick for any usage. Also check on if those are XMP or stock clocks. Many 1600MHz+ RAM's are XMPed RAM's. Also never depend on an QVL list for compatibility check unless you are afraid whether you can pick the RAM or not. Your best bet is to see the Voltage , Max Frequency , Max Latency , etc supported by the Motherboard and CPU and choose RAM accordingly. Check on my guide if you want to.

A bit of a question to you Raja , what systems ( specs ) , conditions , settings do ASUS use to add memories to ASUS's QVL for motherboard. Also do you test on every particular model and revision or an selected model of a chipset ( say a X79 ) and put it on all QVL's of other motherboards with the same chipset ? I found a lot of common memories in QVL's so asked it , no other reason.
