Hi

After a few weeks or research I'm hoping to start my first build in the next few weeks. The intention is to get it up and running for around £1,000, then upgrade it every so often.

Approximate Purchase Date: Next Week

Budget Range: £1000 - £1200

System Usage: Gaming - Eg Rome 2 Total War

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Why Are You Upgrading: Current PC getting old (Struggling to play Company of Heros 2 on min settings)

My idea for parts:
CPU : Intel Core i7-3770K 3.40GHz £240
CPU Cooler: Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler + Fan £ 65
Motherboard: Sabertooth Z87 £170
RAM: TeamGroup Vulcan Red 16GB (2x8GB) £120
GraphicsCard: Asus GeForce GTX 660 £170
Power Supply: Cooler Master V Series V1000 £150
Chassis: Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced Windowed Midi £ 75
Total: £990

Havnt included DVD drive, Hard drive & Windows 7 above as I'll be getting standard ones, should be less than £200.

So I'd basically like to know if the above appears a reasonable build for the price?

Also:
How does it compare with the Alienware x51? (samilar price range)
Is it reasonable to assume I'll be able to upgrade this build in the future with additional graphics cards & SSD?

All feeback will be appreciated.

Thanks

Much, much more graphics processor power. A SSD to speed up boot times and load times. The Sabertooth attracts dust under the extensive shroud.

Why get 16GB RAM for a pure gaming build though..

Samsung's latest software allows the generation of a huge ram cache for the SSD of 1GB or larger making it virtually instantaneous. Also you can make a ram disk and put your internet cache there to, again, make the internet even faster plus reduce wear on the SSD. Plus some future proofing as the most advanced games now are just about at 8GB.

Not worth the extra money, IMO. RAM is very easy to upgrade, unlike other parts that the money could be put into.

Yeah I agree, you don't need it for a strictly gaming rig, and with RAM prices as volatile as they are that's the last place I'd spend money unnecessarily.

I'd do this:
