Is the EVGA Superclocked 760 worth £36 more than the overclocked MSI 660ti with Splinter Cell?

Both are the single fan editions.

Intend to use the card for gaming on a 1680x1040 22" monitor.

The EVGA 760 is sold by my preferred merchant.

I would also buy a i5 3470 to go with the graphics card.

on average the 760 is 4 fps faster than 660ti, and thats at 2560x1440. Lower the resolution then it is much better.

I would say to get the 760. Newer tech, more things supported, drivers will improve its performance more than the 660ti.

Is the performance worth the extra £35 plus a free game though?

Is it overkill?

So is it some sort of second-hand retailer?

The Splinter Cell promotion is from Nvidia directly. You get a code with the game that you input for a download at GeForce.com. I'm not sure how it works, where you get the code, whether its in the box already or something you get from the retailer. It would be worth confirming as you make your decision. The game footage looks awesome, so I would definitely look into it.

I read somewhere that Amazon isn't a participating UK store & just confirmed it at this link:

I understand that the difference at the moment between the 660ti & 760 isn't large but how about in the future?

Thanks to everyone for their help so far by the way I need all the advice I can get.

I really don't think the current performance differences will be any more or less pronounced in the future. The 660 Ti has more CUDA cores, the 760 has a wider memory bus, that's really about the only difference architecturally.

If you go through the individual benchmarks in that linked review, the greatest advantage that the 760 holds is ~5 FPS. Often it's only a 2 FPS advantage. That won't change in the future. It also makes it hard to pay more and lose out on the value of a free game as well.

I know that you are in the UK so this won't apply but I just bought a 760 from Amazon and got the code for the new Splintercell and Conviction faster than I got the card. I talked with Amazon's customer service through live chat and they confirmed the promotion. I had to order it from a specific link that I was provided.

If I were you I would chat with an agent and see if they offer it. If they don't tell them they'll lose the sale over it. It never hurts to try...
