I have been a PC Enthusiast for a very long time. (30 years)

But one thing has always eluded me on getting a straight answer.

Is there a way to test a motherboard WITHOUT a CPU?

I have found many things such as this:
http://
This manufacturer claims it will test every aspect of a motherboard and acts as a substitute CPU in the process.
Another thing I have found which sounds more positive in my search is this:
http://
Yes I know these types of items are socket specific.

Are either of these viable solutions for testing to see if a motherboard is functional?

I know the standard tests without additional hardware or oscilloscopes so that is not an issue.
But I have over 200 boards accumulated over the last several months that may or may not be in working order and I need to test them.

Thank You

Ohh man.. sorry just now got your point ^^
There is one way to know if your mobo work or not.. plugin your speakers and power it up.. if you hear 3 or 4 deep tone that means the mobo work fine and looking for CPU to run
Best regards,

I'm not sure if that's still possible, but back in the days of the Pentium 3, you could just turn the Motherboard on and it would work, you could even use MSDOS without problems, then you could add your CPU and install your windows normally, even heard it was possible to install without a CPU, but I can't confirm.

Sorry to revive an old thread.
