I can't open certain websites in Chrome and FF in windows 8. I can open nytimes.com, hotmail.com, etc. But not facebook, twitter and some other websites (also sites where I do not need a login).
I've tried a lot as I'm looking for hours now. (proxy, hosts, CMD Run, disable firewall). I do have to mention that I've just bought and downloaded Norton.
I hope someone can help me with this. Thanks!

Sometimes just rebooting your modem/router works.Unplug for a few minutes and reconnect.

I would not use Norton with Windows 8. It comes with good, built-in security, including anti-malware, anti-virus, and firewall.

Have you tried Internet Explorer yet, and are you running all of the browsers from the Windows Desktop, and not from the Start page?

Is the date and time set correctly on your computer?

Do you have all of the latest updates for Windows 8 installed?

I do not know why, but everything is working again. I did turn of my computer for longer then half an hour. Maybe that is all what it needed.

Sorry for wasting your time and thank you of course :)
