sound is not coming from headset

i have a Logitech headset and i plug it in and no sound comes through so i turn on my speakers and the sound is playing through them instead of the headset what do i do? i checked my audio system and it said the headset was working

When Sound opens it usually opens in Playback. Your speakers should be checked in green and probably your headset.

i have checked all that (and its a usb) it did work at one time and the sound is supposed to go straight to the headset but it doesnt anymore

One last thing to try: plug in the headphones. Open control panel>Sound>Playback. Disable the default speakers (this should set the head set to default), then try a sound.
