mobo : Gigabyte F2A85X-D3H
ram : Kingston 8gb 2133mhz
psu : Ecopower 2 550w

i don't have a case so i just connect the two pins on the mobo to power on the pc , i've tied everything that was mentioned in this forum with no help , when i removed the ram and switched the pc on i didn't hear a beep or anything , is that normal ? pls help ,i'm getting frustrated by this , been saving up for this pc for a long time .THANKS

Normally I'd say it was a defective MB. But that PSU sounds like a cheapie, so it could be the real issue. How are you connected between MB and monitor? I presume the MB starts up, CPU fan runs, etc.

Check your MB manual and see if one pair of memory slots needs to be populated before the other pair when using only 2 sticks. Some boards are picky that way.

yeah you're right , MB starts up and the apu fan runs perfectly , the MB and monitor are connected through a VGA cable , i don't think the PSU is the issue here , i mean the MB doesn't make any beeps after i removed the 2 ram sticks and powered the pc .. And i did check the MB's manual , and the 2 sticks are right where they should be

Thanks for replying

A defective APU is a possibility, but highly unlikely. The processors are almost never defective. AMD and Intel have a good track record.
Does your monitor have DVI or HDMI that you can test with? There's also the possibility of a bad analog (VGA) cable.

Then I would have to lean towards a bad MB. The board has the bulk of the components on it for the system, and therefore the most that can fail. Unfortunately, a bad board isn't all that unusual. I've had my share of them over the years. Can you RMA it back to the retailer?

i'm not sure i can ... One more thing , in order for the pc to power on i have to hold two screw drivers while touching the power pins on the F-PANEL , if i let go the the fan stops , do u think that if i got a case the damn pc would actually work ? if yes , is there anywhere i can find just the power switch , cause i don't have money for the whole case .. Thanks a lot

Once you short the 2 PWR pins for a moment (momentary contact), the MB should start and keep running. If you have to maintain contact on those two pins, there is something wrong on the MB. That is a clue something is not working right on the board.

Btw, I use this for starting the PC instead of shorting the pins with a screwdriver:
