I currently have a Dell 755 SFF 2.3Ghz 6600 Quad core 6gb ram PC.

I mainly use it for Web design and graphics work however fancied trying a bit of gaming again so bought a cheap AMD Radeon HD7470 1gb as limited to the size wattage because of the case.

Games play but not expecting anything great but fancy getting a better GFX.

However as it turns out I needed to buy a new PC for a client which I managed to get a Dell 755 but the tower case with an E8500 3.16Ghz core 2 so thinking of swapping PC’s over.

So this would give me a full size PCI-e slot so the question really is what card do you suggest I put in this not fussy if it is new or used(ebay)

My limit is £90 very tops ideally around the £50-£70 mark.

Looking for play Steam games GTA , Portal, Track mania and new games ideally.

Any suggestions at all?

Thanks

First of all, I don't know why I advised you DDR3 card, not GDDR5, which is faster. So POWERCOLOR AX7750 1GBD5-DH HD7750 Graphics Card Radeon HD 7750 1GB £74.49 + FREE UK delivery http://www.amazon.co.uk/POWERCOLOR-AX7750-1GBD5-DH-Graphics-DisplayPort/dp/B00775OC28/ref=sr_1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1375586838&sr=1-5&keywords=POWERCOLOR+AX7750

Comparison shows that 7750 is stronger than 7450, but not by the huge margin http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-7570-vs-Radeon-HD-7470
However Video benchmark Radeon HD 7570 is 972 http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+HD+7570
Radeon HD 7470 is 369 http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+HD+7470&id=298

if you can spend more money for 7770 and power supply upgrade...

A nvidia 650 non ti is about £100 , Rough equivalent, sorry Im american, or you could go with a radeon 7790 for just about £90 on newegg.com and maybe cheaper on ebay. Good luck, both of those will be able to play new games with mid-range graphics nothing to small and nothing too intense. G

Thanks for the response and I have looked at the card and the slot in the Dell not 100% sure if it will fit, i may need to go for a single slot card.

5770 or 6770 are both single slot cards but are a bit older and will have a harder time to deal with new games but it will be able to play them.

small clarification needed.

So you say you have Mini Tower, did I understood you correctly?

1541optiplex755family30.jpg

Also, your top money is 90 GBP correct?

I will drop technicalities unless you really want to see proof of my words - the strongest cards to physically fit in Mini Tower are HD7770 and GTX650, nothing stronger will fit!

Another thing. HD7770 will require power supply upgrade just to be sure, GTX650 a few cards do not.
HD7750 do not require power supply upgrade and fall into your budget category.
So to summarize - you want to spend maximum £90 all together for video card upgrade, is this correct?!

I will start looking for HD7750 which will fit, meantime.

PLease respond, I don't want to list bunch of offers here and at the end you say that you not interested at all.

This one will fit and it doesn't require power supply upgrade
POWERCOLOR AX7750 2GBK3-H HD7750 Graphics Card Radeon HD 7750 2GB PCIE http://www.amazon.co.uk/POWERCOLOR-AX7750-2GBK3-H-HD7750-Graphics/dp/B009DABWEQ/ref=sr_1_15?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1375421612&sr=1-15&keywords=hd+7750

I can try to see GTX 650 if you are interested in NVIDIA more.

P.S. If you finding any answers particularly helpful to you, please mark it as Pick A solution, to solve the thread - it will benefit others, searching for the same question.

Thanks so much for your effort that card looks like it will be spot on for what i want assuming it will be a lot stronger than my current card?

if you can spend more money for 7770 and power supply upgrade, the difference will be much more noticeable, but you have budget limit, so this talk is irrelevant.

There is a possibility that 7770 might work with your power supply, but it may not as well, would you take this chance? This might work only if you have one DVDRW and one HDD, so you can you remaining 2 power connectors to attempt to power 6 pin video card connector, but this is risky. Adding power supply will be excellent, but in this case you will be over your 90 GBP limit?

So?

Well what i think i may well do is this but there is a slight issue

The dell 755 i ordered for another job I may use and swap from my current 755 SFF that has a Q6600 quad core over to the dual E8500 3.16 as this will give me a little more space and power.

I could get a 7770 well within £80 however the issue is that the card has is a double slot the dells location of the PCI-e slot is right at the end so not sure if it would fit, if the card was posiions a different way then wold be ideal but it looks like all cards have the fan /cooler placed on the same side check this to see what i mean

I will check to see if there is a way the web, but thanks for your help I think i will try to get the 7770 fitted somehow

Why some how?

THIS POST APPLICABLE TO MT (MINI TOWER) FORM FACTOR ONLY.

Unfortunately no card that is more than 7.5 inches long or 2 slots wide will PHYSICALLY FIT inside the case - it was found that only single bracket video card can fit due to BTX MOBO, where card internals facing upward towards PC internals, not ATX, where dual card design is blocking another PCI slot by facing downward.
If you prefer the card with beefier fan, then the length of the card must not exceed 7.5 inches, otherwise only "skinny" single bracket, single slot cards can physically fit.

Pictures below will prove my point.

View shows no room for dual bracket

01optilexgx620backviewe.jpg

Single bracket only, or you have to cut dual bracket in half

This is the other way to show my point

Here you can clearly see only single place for the bracket

This is the picture of actual "skinny" single slot video card (not sure which model)- perfect, "glove" fit.

So, looking for 7770, correct? UK has more options, so it will take some time. Also, are you considering power supply upgrade?
Last question, to make you wondering - Q6600 can be overclocked in Dell from 2.4 to 3.0GHz, which will make it equal in speed to your E8500, plus Q6600 has 4 cores, so it will become faster and stronger than E8500.
What I am trying to say - if your client just need working PC, you can swap CPUs (including heatsinks), overclock Q6600 in Mini Tower and be happy.
How about this scenario?
