I want to build a gaming computer, but then I though about the ps4 that is coming out at Christmas. And I wanted to know which would be better. I'd say my setup is really up there, but it's $1200, without games. Where as the ps4 is $400 with tons of money leftover for games. By December I would have $800 or so. So I wanted to know which is better performance. Which ever one you say is better please explain why. Thanks in advance! :D

Pc will almost always be better for gaming. They simply have more raw power because new hardware is always being released. As we speak the hardware in the ps4 and xb1 is already becoming outdated, to put it simply. You can always upgrade a pc as new hardware comes out, with consoles you are stuck on the same hardware for years. It really comes down to how much you spend, and if you simply like pc controls vs controller.

This comes up a lot and well worth mentioning again. A computer does much more than any console(consoles are getting better). IF you don't care about exclusive titles(I don't because I have never owned a console). My main thing is that don't have a problem waiting for a game to go on sale. For example, buying a game on Steam on sale for $2.50 to 10.00, instead of buying a console game and paying 20.00 to 60.00. And of course there are issues of the keyboard/mouse debate(I use a trackball, better than a mouse) and console input device, which is better. Both have their advantages but I will take keyboard/mouse(trackball) over a console but I do use a joystick/throttle devices for flying and driving simulations.

Happy gaming, the Prisoner...

i know pc has more power and is upgradeable, but the ps4 is easier to use and is much cheaper for gaming. All I want to do is game, but then again my laptop is dying( the fans bearing is messed up) so I think getting a gaming computer would be better. BUT its $1200. Im only 14 and get money from walking a dog = $20/week. Right now I have about $350 saved up, and I figured that by the time the ps4 comes out Id be able to buy it some games and a new monitor. But if I want a gaming computer, I have to wait until next March break until I can get everything. (no monitor) So i just need that one job of gaming and thought ps4 would be better, but then my laptop is going down the drain and i might need a new computer. But the dog im walking is really old, so....
i dont thnk ill be paid for very much longer. So thats why im really confused :(

Dylan, first of all, very cool that you have a job and earning some cash. I know when I was 14 it was hard to make money, mowing neighbors lawns and yard work. You need to find some more dogs to walk! haha.

You don't have to spend 1200.00 on a computer and you might be able to find a used monitor and etc. The thing is, when your laptop dies now you won't have a computer and just a PS4. It makes more sense to put 400.00 into a computer since you looks like you will need another one anyways.

There is no clear winner to the Console vs the PC debate. I mean they both are good at the price range they are targeted at.

The Console is a good performer for 400 dollars whereas any 400 dollar PC does not even come close to the performance.

Wheras the PC gaming goes, the PC's which costs like 600-700 dollars are generally the sweet spot for gaming. So, it depends much on what is the budget for the build.

Anyways talking about the PS4, I think it would be a good buy since the games that comes out for console are like millimeter to millimeter optimized for that specific hardware, so it should not give any problems for like next 3-4 years. The PS4 should be able to handle all the next gen games without any problems and at good settings, while none of the current 400 dollars build can do the same.

The best build for 400 dollars is the AMD Athlon II X4 750K + 7770Ghz Edition which is good but not as much optimized for the next gen games that PS4 would be, so the games would run much better on the PS4.

If you are buying a console now, then surely go for it. It should not have any problems for the next 3-4 years at all. Buying a console at launch is not at all a bad option. I mean, it can play the latest games at good settings (even though however the hardware is, it does not matter, developers optimize everything for the hardware). So as for now, get a PS4 since it can run the next gen games like the GTA V, BF4 and many more without any problem at all. So for 400 dollars, it is a pretty good deal.

My dad saidwhen when the laptop shuts down on its own 2 or 3 times, then he will take the computer apart and fix/buy a new fan part for it. And the dog I walk is like 14 years old and I wont be walking him for much longer so im not sure if id get enough money for the computer, whether is be 1200 or 800 as you suggested. So if i dont have enough money i would go for the ps4, because i just wanted to game and it looks pretty good. But if i keep going to march then it would be fine. But i guess i just have to wait. But if you guys were in my situation when your dog walking could go bye bye in a few months, what would you do?

Well you can look at it this way, the ps4 will run all the next gen games for years to come, on pc you are going to have to upgrade to do that. Performance per dollar over the long run, the ps4 would be better. If you get the ps4 you will game on that for years to come, I still play on my ps3 even though I have a custom pc. Also playing on the ps4 at E3, it was so much better than the ps3. Especially with the new amd architecture.

That's a really tough one to answer, since it depends on what kind of games you like. I have a PS3 right now and was planning on the PS4 in the winter, but I think I'll wait it out on the new consoles since I hardly ever touch mine anymore.

I just actually put together a PC today, and finished building it this evening (save for one annoying bit), I did a Core i3 3220 with an Asus Radeon 7870. Then all the usual suspects such as a case, mother board, 8gb of ram, a cheap 500gb 7200rpm hdd and a 500 watt psu (which when I got home didn't have a second pcie power cable so now I have to go back to the store when it opens to get a 2x molex 4 pin to 1x pcie 6 pin adapter, things to check when you are buying!), and of course a copy of Windows 7 (not really a fan of win8).

I'm expecting the performance out of this to be pretty good, but not mind blowing. My setup cost me 850 dollars with taxes (I live in British Columbia, Canada).

By the time you are ready to buy your parts, (and if this is going to be an ongoing project, watch out for things to go on sale and buy them up!) I'd suggest going the PC route. What I missed about PC gaming was the versatility and the prices of games. You aren't stuck with a box that can't be upgraded and you have more control over what you do with your machine, I figure what you'll save in software you'll spend on hardware so it really levels out in the end, unless of course you keep your PC for a long time and just keep saving on games that go on sale.

What's keeping me going on this, is that I have some games already that I love to play (purchased on steam), and I had picked up 2 games that I couldn't really play on my previous machine (the new Sim City and Diablo 3), so now I'm finally going to enjoy those two titles.

Blizzard and Steam both sync your activation keys to your accounts, so you can just go online and download products you've already purchased, it'd pretty awesome and I love not having to dig around for my discs whenever I switch computers.

If $1200 is your budget I think you should: buy a ps4, buy a high end tablet, and spend the rest on ps4 games. That way you'll be the envy of all your friends because you'll have 2 high end items instead of just one nice PC. I wouldn't dump it all into the PC unless you're serious about PC gaming or have plans to use it for something specific. Consoles will have more exclusive games than PC's that you will likely feel bad about missing out on if you care about a lot of those exclusives. Most PC exclusives will be mmos although there are a few other good non-mmos as well. The way I see it is if you don't care about every little pixel and care more about experiencing a wider variety of games.....then a ps4 will be the obvious choice and better use of money.

hey mate, yes pc games are fantastic but you need to pay for it, if you spend a little bit its not going to be fantastic for long, for instance if you had a pc that was the same price and from the same year as when the ps3 came out it wouldnt be better than the ps3 now days. yes pc are pushing the limits as we speak but they are expensive limits. and you need to be prepared to hurdle many compatibly issues each new game can have it own separate issues ive spent days trying to get a game running right. on the other hand ps4 is put disk in a press play is amazing value and its very powerful it will pay for itself many times over you couldnt build a half decent gaming pc of the same specs for that price. and like the ps3 it will be good for many years to come. also pc games are not always that cheap when they first come out they are about the same price as console games and YOU CANT SELL THEM! but with my ps3 games i trade in my old games and actually get money back for them.
after weighing up the diffrences in the rest of this thread you can see the choice is simple, get a ps4. it is what you want, inexpensive, easy to use, no compatibility issues and has longevity.

ps tho there is a yearly subscription fee for online gaming

Xbox 360 is dying it has subscription fee and you need to buy batteries for the control.
Ps3 is free online gaming, built in lithium batteries so no batteries needed and has a bluray player built in. Plus you can play last of us. Get ps3

Well I was thinking of getting the Xbox and tv first then I will save some more and get the ps4. I do like the ps4, but the ps3 controller set me off a bit. The ps4 controller is different and I will wait to see how it feels in my hands. Bit so far just the Xbox. Definitely not the Xbox 1

No offense, but it has got crappy graphics. One should simply not get older generations console at this time. They are a crap when it comes to graphics quality. I would not recommend anything below a PS4 or a Xbox one for console right now. The XboX 360 has completed it's life and let that thing rest in peace.

The new consoles will take care of the rest from now on..
