My friend gave me this computer to look at and see if I could fix: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Docume...

Honestly, I have no idea how to fix this one. Apparently it hasn't worked in a couple of years and when I got it, the green LED light indicating that it was getting power was the only thing that would work. I couldn't and currently still can't use the power button at all. I popped open the case and just decided to blow out as much dust as possible and then tried resetting the red power switch on the back while the power was disconnected. The fans inside finally started up, but the first time they kicked in, a spark shot from where the motherboard is located, which I'm pretty sure is not a good sign at all. Nothing currently works (including any display ports, power button, etc, except the fans) At the very least, my friends would like the information off the hard-drive if anyone has any suggestions on how to do that. Keep in mind that this is really my first time digging into a computer...

Sounds like it is shorting somewhere. I suggest remove all components and clean everything of dust. Look for stray screws as this can sometimes cause shorting. Hope you sort it.
