Hi all,

I have an msi z87 gd65 motherboard paired with an i7 4770k. Now, after a failed overclock attempt, my system is having troubles booting into windows. The system posts just fine, but gets hung up at the windows logo when windows first boots. A friend of mine suggested clearing the CMOS via jumper method. After reading up a bit on resetting the CMOS, most of my sources say that resetting the bios to default settings is equivalent to clearing the cmos via the jumper method. Is the jumper method better for clearing the CMOS than resetting everything to factory defaults?

Thanks for reading!

Solution
For being more precise, clearing the CMOS does reset the BIOS to default, but setting the BIOS to default does not clear the CMOS.
Yo can google for CMOS vs BIOS and find out BIOS and CMOS roles/differences.

Clearing the cmos resets the bios defaults *rephrased so not to confuse* There are 2 ways of doing this either from within the bios, or if you cant access the bios using the method suggested in the motherboards manual(usually a jumper or a button). Your board doesn't have a jumper it uses a small black button on the back panel between the usb and spdif ports. Usually you only have to do this when the system wont post after a failed OC attempt, but where your system is posting you should just be able to enter the bios and adjust the settings to find a stable configuration.
