Hello everyone

I recently bought a Asus HD 7850 2gb v2 (DirectCU II )
and i was told that i needed a new PSU so i bought a Greenmax from Gigabyte with 650w.
I didn't open it just yet. i wanted to confirm that it would work without problems.
I plan to buy an amd cpu (fx series probably) and on the psu box on the "features" list it says "Support intel i3, i5 and i7 series cpu"
Also the PCI-E 2.0 is 6+2 ? i think the HD 7850 has 6 pins.

My question here and to sum all this :
Will the PSU work with my GPU (HD 7850) and an AMD cpu?
I currently have Core 2 Duo 2.93 ghz cpu and i plan to change my Motherboard and my CPU

Additional thing i just thought of, Which is better an intel i5 3.0 ghz (4 cores) or an AMD 4.2 ghz (4 cores)

Thanks in advance...

Depending on your budget, it is a toss up.
If you can spend about $250 or so on the CPU, the i5-3570k is an AMAZING gaming card.
If you are limited to $150 or so, an AMD FX 8320 is not too bad and it is an 8 Core processor.
The PSU is pretty good since it has 80 PLUS Bronze certification. Its decently efficient and will work just fine with the 7850.
The PSU is not processor specific. It works on both the i3, i5, i7, FX-4000s, FX-6000s, and FX-8000s. It does not matter as long as your GPU gets the power it needs from its recommendation. All in all, that is a pretty nice setup my friend~

Yes, the 3570K is an amazing processor. But it isn't $250 at all. The one I bought from newegg last week was $219.99.

I have bought several of this exact processor and will continue to buy it for all of the computers I build for a while.

Nice~! I just did not want to say its $189.99 cause thats only at my local Microcenter and I do not know if that is true for all Microcenters...

The fx-6300 would run all games at high settings (maxed), right ?
the fx-6300 is 109.99$ right now and it can run every game out there on it's maxed settings.
If that is true. why would i pay an additional 100 bucks for something i don't need. What i want from the cpu is gaming and nothing else. i don't edit videos, picture or anything else.

So which is the right call ? let's assume i don't have a budget
Cuz i would save up for what serves me best

Thanks to all your answers. i really appreciate it.

You can also get the Athlon 750k wich is $80 and also plays everything on max with the right GPU.

But going with a higher end CPU will bring a smoother experience.
