Hi, I work in one hotel and in every room(rooms are 8 per floor and there are plasterboard walls) we have AP - D-Link DI-524. Problem is they're constantly crashing - we have to reboot them. And I see guests are not happy, some of them are not even complaining when the Internet is down. I don't know if this is a firmware issue and if I update them with the latest version the problem will stop. http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/di-524-high-speed-2-4ghz-802-11g-wireless-router?revision=deu_revb

Also I don't know can I change firmware with OpenWRT or Tomato. DD-WRT it's not possible - I've already checked. The AP are in every room, because of security reasons, but now the hotel is thinking of changing them. I'm proposing to have 2-3 per floor and they will be in Client Isolation Mode. Right now I
consider buying some of these routers

TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND - this is with Gbit ports
TP-LINK TL-WR841ND

First model is with Gbit ports - do they have faster forwarding rate and better processor? I forgot to say we've got Smart TV LCD.

I have TP-Link with DD-WRT at home, model is WR-841ND and we don't have such issues. The router is 24x7, we don't even stop it.

Thank you.

It seems that you probably have two issues.

With G (or N for that matter) wireless you only have 3 non-overlapping channels (1, 6, and 11). With all of those wireless radios in close proximity I would expect a ton of interference and lots of problems. Depending on the layout of the floor you should be able to get by with one or two access points per floor and stagger them so that there is little or no overlap between adjoining floors.

With the smart TVs also you may be overloading the wireless radio on some of the access points with all the connections (guests and TVs) so you may want to consider higher quality access points.

Consider getting a consultation from a wireless network specialist to plan the network properly.
