i7 laptop not performing well

Hello all,

I have a laptop with i7 3630QM, GT650M and 4GB RAM on it.

I feel like my i7 dont performing very well because sometimes it still get some lag. (not permanent, but its annoying me). in another word, i think the system is not stable.

I have those software in my laptop :
1. Ccleaner
2. Diskeeper
3. Avast antivirus

But still, i think my i7 is just working like an i3 or i5.

What should i do now?

Im thinking of doing those actions :
1. Use a tune-up software
2. Upgrading the RAM to 8GB

according to your comment I believe there is no problem at all.

the laggy feeling could be because of the power mode is set to balanced or power saver.

It has 4 cores & 8 threads, while i3 & i5 only has 2 cores (for laptop). Dont you think my laptop should perform better?

And the lag is not just a "feeling". It even cause crash sometimes. What make me not happy is, i even dont do much multitasking with this laptop, but still its lag

And the last night, the apps crashes when my laptop is in high performance mode, and its just opening chrome & eclipse.

most of the applications use either 1 or 2 threads, aside from professional apps. so daily/casual user doesnt even need more than 4 cores/threads actually. Increasing the number of cores doesnt really increase your performance the way you think. Basically you can think about it like 1 application uses 1 thread. On i3 and i5, since the number of threads(logical core) is equal to number of cores(phsyical core) you can say 1 app per core.
I guess you get to the point...

Difference in performance just by the number of cores is only visible in some benchmarks.

What actually matters for a daily user is the performance of a single core, which you can actually/only use.

Well... roughly an i7 is stronger than an i3 yes. but its not the reason having more cores, the reason is i7 has more l2 and l3 cache and usually higher frequency lets say. (for games and daily applications)

But also the high end i5-4670K is presenting totally the same performance with i7-4770K. or there similar equations on more chips, the only difference on those cpu's is hyper-threading which 4770k has 8 threads but 4670k has only 4 threads, both having 4 cores.

So, probably its just your way of seeing, as its not related having an i7 performing bad, like i5 or even i3.

What I'm trying to say is that I believe there is no problem, but you are expecting a desktop processor performance.

Its notebook in the end, dont expect miracles. 3630qm is actually a good processor for a notebook. I'm using the same processor. It works ok for a notebook, but slower than a desktop thats for sure.

One more question,

well by tuning up you mean overclocking I assume, first of all you dont have enough cooling for that, which will cause you to fry the system. so I dont advise that. adding more ram is only effective if you have less than 4gb. so if you are not going to buy faster memories there is no point of adding more capacity.

the best upgrade for a notebook is adding an SSD with at least 128gb capacity, if you do not have it already, as the rest of the system is good enough for a notebook.
