Disclaimer: The only thing I've upgraded is my GPU. I'm not very experienced.

First of all, I'm not building. I'm upgrading my original AsusTeK V7-P7H55E Desktop [http://www.asus.com/Barebone_PCs/V7P8H61E].

My current specs are:

CPU: Intel Core i3 540 Dual-core

Mobo: AsusTeK V-P7H55E LGA1156, Intel Chipset (Havendale/Clarkdale Host Bridge), Intel Southbridge (H55) and Winbond LPCIO

PSU: Corsair HX650v2 650W

RAM: 2133MhZ DDR3 4GB

GPU: XFX Radeon HD6850

HDD: ST31000528AS ATA 1TB

CDROM: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50 ATA

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

Other: This computer is pre-built and I bought it a few years ago.

~

I only want to upgrade my CPU, GPU and RAM really, although I have a 1156 mobo it would be the best bet to upgrade to an LGA1150.

~

Proposed upgrades:

CPU: Haswell Intel Quad Core i5-4670K 3.4 GHz [http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Quad-Core-i5-4670K-3-4-GHz-3-8-GHz-Turbo-Haswell-LGA-1150-OEM-Processor-/161074851661?pt=CPUs&hash=item2580cf2f4d]

GPU: EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 2GB DDR5 [http://www.ebay.com/itm/EVGA-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-760-2GB-GDDR5-2DVI-HDMI-DisplayPort-pci-e-Video-Card-w-/200943714492?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item2ec92dc0bc]

Mobo: Asus H87-PRO LGA1150 ATX Motherboard [http://ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemID=612436&CategoryID=302]

RAM: GeIL 4GB DDR3 Value SO-DIMM C9 1333MHz [http://ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemID=601490&CategoryID=282]

~

Since I've never really fiddled with the CPU/Mobo etc, I'm sort of worried that I'm going to do something wrong. Is there anything wrong with this?

Ill reply to any questions about my setup immediately.

Extra question: What Heatsink would you recommend for a Haswell i5 4670k? I think I might overclock a bit. Pref price under $80.

Thanks in advance

Solution
If you get an i5 or an i7 with that GTX 780, you will be bottlenecked by your 1333 RAM.

If you are going with a GTX 780 you might as well spend $110 more for an i7 4770k. I would also NOT buy off of ebay or 'dodgy' websites because they could just rip you off. Try newegg or amazon, they have good warranties and reputations.

4 gb 1333 ram is rather low and silly for a system... I suggest going at least 8 gb with 1600, but more if you can, personally I would go with 2133 ram here (Amazon)

I recommend Corsair, ASUS, GeForce brands. If you skip out and get a cheap low part you will be bottlenecked and disappointed.

To answer your question, yes the combination will work. You are only saving the case, dvd burner/drive, and hard...

Tata!

UPDATE: Forgot to mention, you might need to reinstall windows 7 on your new machine. In fact, do. Format + reinstall to wipe off the old drivers, cross your fingers Mr. Gates doesn't force you to buy a new copy. Put your pictures/whatever on a flash drive that you want to keep.

2nd UPDATE: it would be silly to overclock right now esp with stock cooling. Your system would wreck anything out there, and if you overclock you could void the warranty. I would personally wait it out.

Also be very careful when you start since you are a newbie to overclocking and could make your system unstable. If you were to overclock, I would def recommend getting watercooling system, they only cost like $100 or so for top notch ones.

Thanks for you answer. I have a few questions regarding what you said if that's ok. By the way, I am getting the gtx 760 not the 780.

1. If I make the decision to buy x2 4GB 1600MhZ RAM cards instead, how much performance will I lose when compared to the 2133MhZ ram?

2. I am not sure what you meant by this "You are only saving the case, dvd burner/drive, and hard drive."
Can you explain more please? Do you mean I keep continue using my existing dvd drive, hdd, and case? If so, I also have a corsair 650W PSU to take into consideration.

I think that MhZ number was an error on my part. When I checked CPU-Z under the memory tab I thought that the "NB Frequency" was the number I should list. But under DRAM Frequency its 667 MhZ, which matches the brand product.

Personally, 1600 should be fine, however bumping it up to 2133 or higher will increase frame rates def, probably by around 4-6% typically could bring up fps by 1 or 2 which isn't a bad deal considering faster ram isn't much more expensive.

Yes, you are keeping it. The 650W should be fine, but take note the actual rating would probably be around 600 safely speaking and overtime you must recognize that the wattage rating degrades but generally speaking yes it should be fine unless you decide to SLI or put in watercooling

After talking with my friend, I think I understand the whole process a bit more. Can you please check out my new thread @ http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1754458/motherboard-case-sizes-amd-intel-cpu-newb-answers.html ? Sorry to sound demanding, but i just get really worried that I am going to screw something up.
