I have made quite bad decision and bought Creative SB Audigy SE without prior thought. It is a shame when comes to software/drivers. Even with SB P17X Support pack. And it is no compatibile with standard front panel audio outputs as it has proprietary Creative connector.
To be frank, I am used to Realtek HD control panel with configurable outputs with rerouting capibility, instant speaker plug-in discovery. Comparing to this, SB comes with nothing. Just basic options like my old Yamaha from '99.
Noted that, I would like to inquire about good sound card with similar or better capabilities to onboard Realtek chip.
I am casual win7 user (only games) and gentoo daily user (all other things). When it comes to linux I am well aware that all that advanced stuff will not be well supported, but that is not a case. And I am well behind with components, last time when I scouted for parts was 5 years ago while buying my last pc box.
