Hi mate, I know this may be dated now, but it may help others who seek the same. Just browsed upon this while I was trying to get mine to work. I have the same Motherboard as you.

I have a Creative 5.1 speaker system. My motherboard has 3 outputs in the back (Blue, Green, Pink) and I have a headphones and mic panel in the front. All I did was get the latest drivers here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H61/#support

Download the latest Audio Driver, plug in all 3 cables in the back from your Front - Rear and Sub. The ASUS control panel will pop up and just select 5.1 under "Speaker Configuration". You'll notice that at the bottom of that ASUS window, when you plug them in the Blue, Green and Pink icons will light up.
Check your speakers with an audio file and you're away!

Good luck! Worked for me, took me 2 minutes.
