Do I need a new copy of windows 7?

I am buying a used motherboard from a guy off craigslist and when I see that the motherboard works I will purchase it. I was wondering if I needed to buy a ne copy of windows 7. I heard that the os could stay on the motherboard some how.

Thanks in advance.

If you own a retail copy of windows(nice box) , then you don't have to, otherwise you will need to purchase it. OS's are stored on a hard drive, not the motherboard.
