Approximate Purchase Date: December 2013
Budget Range: $700-$900
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Microsoft Excel, Streaming Movies to HDTV, listening to music, browsing internet, playing Minecraft with little brother
Are you buying a monitor: Not at this time. Currently have a dual monitor set up with older lcd monitors for time being
Parts to Upgrade: Operating System, Motherboard, CPU, Graphics Card, RAM, Harddrive, Power Supply
Do you need to buy OS: Yes
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg, microcenter, tigerdirect
Location: City, State/Region, Country - Michigan, metro detroit area
Overclocking: No
SLI or Crossfire: ?
Your Monitor Resolution: 1024x768 - dual monitor
Additional Comments: Trying to build a more efficient and quieter PC
And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Current build is roughly 8years old and was built for heavy gaming. The HDD is failing and with XP support to end next April, felt it was best to do a full upgrade. Figure with all of the upgrades in tech, this new build will be a little more energy efficient. Also the computer will not get much use except throughout the week (roughly on for 30hours a week)
I am currently using the following:
OS: Windows XP Pro
CPU: Q6600 Quad with GO Stepping
Mobo: Asus P5K Deluxe
GPU: BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC2 320MB GDDR3
RAM: 4gbs of Corsair DDR2 XMS2 6400C4
I am upgrading to the following:
OS: Windows 7 or Windows 8?
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K ($199)
i5-4670K
Motherboard: Asus Z87-Pro ($Currently $144.99 with Rebate and $40 Savings if purchased with CPU)
Z87-Pro
GPU: **NEED SUGGESTIONS** Gaming will only be Minecraft so nothing too heavy needed
Ram: **NEED SUGGESTIONS**
Harddrive: Was thinking about 2 harddrives, one for every day use, and then the other just to store my digital movie collection on. I was leaning more towards the WD Sata Green 3TB for the movies and a WD Sata Blue 2TB for system use.
Power Supply: Not quite sure how much power I will need. 750W power supply with 80+ rating?
Thank you for your suggestions and help!
