Hey guys have a question about a new build im doing.

i'm build a few systems for an office (dual purpose), the systems will be used to play movies (SD, HD) on a TV. and for doing basic office duties (word, excel, internet etc)

Im looking for something that is powerful enough to be able to play 1080p movies on a second monitor (TV's in this case), as well as being able to perform company tasks at the same time without a noticeable degrade in performance either on the video playback or on the user.

I've been looking at either the A10-6800k or the A8-6600k for APU havent picked out a mobo or ram yet.. just hoping i could get some suggestions and advice

thanks guys i appreciate any help

An APU would definitely be my choice as well, for your needs. The 6800k is quite powerful, has a Radeon HD 8670D in its guts so you'll even be able to do some gaming with it. If you can afford it, go for it, the difference between that and the 6600k is around 20-30 USD. However, the 6600k (and even the $100 5600k 3.6GHz) will easily do the Full HD video and company tasks. And considering that the three mentioned APUs are Black Editions, you can overclock them easily. If you want to save a few bucks, get any of the the last two. The 5600k is more popular and has more good reviews on newegg than the 6600k.

Regarding the MoBo, I'd recommend any of these, both at $60:

Intel Haswell is enough for what you need. and alot faster ... the quick Sync in Intel also is the fastest movie encoding cpu in the market it outperforms dedicated GPU.

one more thing , do you want it a compact little cube Machine that takes minimum desktop space ?

I can help you here .

besides , I need to know your budget.

budget is open but within reason. $400 - $650 i think is reasonable..

form factor isn't a huge concern, but the smaller the better.. the system will likely be housed in a cabinet of sorts

And the RAM, I'd go with 8 GB as you'll be multitasking, although if you're budget is tight you could get away with 4GB (2x2GB).

Good luck!

thanks for the reply. im done a similar build like this before for another office.

AMD A10-5800
ASRock FM2A75 Pro4-M
8 gb RAM

I was very happy with the end product, however i did notice some random playback issue when running XBMC on a second display. i dont know if this a problem with xbmc and just the setup in general. I know when you run xbmc on 2nd display it needs to be set to fullscreen window mode instead of true fullscreen.. that could be the problem i dont know

If you go AMD A10 , be sure to get the FM2 new one , and it works with DDR3 2133 .. dont get lower memory than that.

Could be a lot of factors, I've read that XBMC is quite picky and choppiness isn't unheard of. I read somewhere that most choppiness is solved by disabling the Capable Receiver under Audio Settings.

But if you want to be super sure that your hardware won't be the issue, go for the 6800 and you should be good. :)
