Hello,
I recently bought a 7770, played far cry 3 with it and im getting the symtpomts of a cpu bottleneck (Same fps on low-high) I only have a dual core 5400k, but its clocked at 4.2ghz, this is the cpu bottlenecking right?

Ive got a couple of options to look at

I can:

A. Buy x4 750k for $89
B. 8120+mobo(Don't really want to cuz i just upgraded mobo yesterday)
c. overclock, I have a hyper101, and i plan to get a secound fan when my rebate get back. I plan for around 4.5ghz

Current temps are 50c load (should stay same or little higher when upgrading fan)

Also, Im downloading bf3 and would that see the same effect as fc3? I think bf3 is more gpu intesive

(all im looking for is a playable framerate i.e. 30+)

it is your VGA not the CPU

7770 is very slow card for that game.

Yes. its clock at 1100mhz and ram at 1225mhz, it says its only on 40% load on fc3...

I would definitely says its your cpu.. I ran FC3 on my 1080p tv with my xfx 6850 without an issue on medium to medium high settings.. But I am running a Core-i5 OC to 4.2 which makes alot of difference to the dual cores.. especially if its not even a core-i3

Im pickin you as best answer, it works great! plus its at 4.2ghz so is far from stock...Im just glad there someone out there that agree that you don't need an i5+760 or higher to play good games...this i was a budget build at its great

Noticed a slight bottleneck but its better than integrated on it...beside that isn't overclock to 4.2ghz
And i chose the 5400k because of the graphics, looking back now i shouldve went with a pentium, but i wouldn't of liked like low frame rates in minecrat ;)

2636 was my score, still not comparable to the best, but i feel like it works just fine for running a video game and not multitasking

I appreciate that! Thank you for picking me for best answer! Also, this hafijur guy is going to do everything in his power to convince you Intel is better. Which he's not wrong on that. But his numbers are completely off. lol.

No it wasn't, I asked if my cpu is bottlenecking, and when i closed prime95 and lt worked, he said it didn't bottleneck a 7770, it doesn't (to a noticable extent)...answer solved....

In a sense, Hafijer is right. You're getting 2FPS less than what you should be getting if you had an Intel system!!! *rollseyes*

I play with an old phenom II x4 840, which is essentially a re branded Athlon II x4, but it runs games good still with my HD 7870, it provides me with what I need until I get to playing Crysis 3. Lol, there is no explanation as to how a FX 8150 is bottle necking your HD 7770.

Actually, I got threads mixed up with similar titles. Either way, that CPU isn't enough to create a major bottleneck. Obviously, considering he got a performance gain disabling a specific program.

I should have known when your posts disappeared in the other thread.

I have the a6-5400k paired with the R7 260X and i'm convinced i'm getting a bottleneck. Would upgrading to the x4 750k solve this?
