Not getting as much sound output from PC

Hi all

I'm having a problem with my PC, having to do with the sound more specifically. It doesn't seem to put out as much sound through my speakers as it did before I re-installed Windows. My laptop puts out significantly more sound when I plug in the same speakers to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

what windows are you using ? (XP, Vista, Win7 or Win8).
have you tried uninstalling you audio drivers and installing the lastest realtek drivers from the realtek website ?

realtek drivers can be found here

if your using windows 7 or windows 8 you might also want to check an audio option that can reduce your sound for music, video, etc is not selected.
Go into Control Panel> Hardware and Sound> Sound. in the Sound window that opens click the last tab called "Communications" and put the dot into "Do Nothing" click apply and ok to clocse window. restart computer and test audio again

Sorry about not putting the OS. I'm running Windows 7.

I just re-installed the Realtek audio drivers and it doesn't seem to have changed anything. I noticed on my laptop, it has an older version of the driver. Could there be a compatibility issue going on with my PC and the current drivers possibly?

Also, I do have the communications tab set to "Nothing"
