AMD Vision Center: Can't select 'Perserve aspect ratio'

I have an HP-DV6Z-7000 laptop with an AMD radeon 7730M GPU. Ever since I got the laptop, I have never been able to select 'Perserve aspect ratio' on the GPU scaling options. I do the usual trick of reducing my screen resolution, then selecting the corresponding radio button, but every time I hit apply, it switches back to full screen (stretching) mode.

I try this every time there is a driver update, but the only options that work are centered timings and full screen. Does anyone else have this issue. Is there any other tricks I can try. Playing 640x480 games using centered timings is impossible on this monitor (1920x1080).

I have a similar issue with my much older AMD mobile GPU with the Catalyst software, except mine accepts the setting (after the resolution drop trick to un-gray the setting) and randomly reverts. I don't find out until the next time I try to launch an older game that does not support widescreen. Since mine is a 4000 series driver updates are not an option, they stopped making them more than a year ago. I am interested to see where this thread goes.

Unless the games you are trying to play predate widescreen, try 800x480, that is what I use to play BF3 on my 1080p monitor since it is the same aspect ratio and not a much higher pixel count than 640x480.

Unfortunately, the games I play predate widescreen. I thought this would be a one off issue, but they don't seem to be fixing it. Worse off, I can't find any threads that have this exact problem (or something similar).

It also should be noted that this problem also existed when I had windows 7 64-bit installed.

Its just something they have not bothered to fix. Its been like this for 2-3 years. I guess they just decided it doesn't matter since all the new games support widescreen. One of the many reasons I have decided NOT to get an AMD graphics card when I do my desktop build.
