Hello,

When I first put this machine together 2 months ago the RAM was showing correctly as 8GB in Windows.

Now windows will report only 4 gigs with 2 slots not used. All 4 memory slots are used on the motherboard with 2GB each.

Also note that despite what Windows shows Speccy displays that 8GB are present and that all slots are taken.

I have made no bios changes since creating the machine.

Thanks for your help.

Solution

Try reseating the memory modules and make sure that all slots are working fine. Also make sure the max memory limit is unchecked in the msconfig. If you have memory remap feature then you can make use of the same. Also try a BIOS...

Do you have 64 bit windows?

My mobo is the Z77 Extreme4

In the BIOS slot A1 and A2 are shown as empty but my board also includes this visual device viewer and in there all slots are shown to be full with 2GB sticks

Try reseating the sticks, also might try moving them around and see if any change..Do 2 sticks only work in 1-3 and also work in 2-4, that can eliminate a bad slot....Can also try each stick individually with Memtest, (3-5 passes on each should suffice)
