HEY, GUYS. I've been having quite a bit of problems for my battery lately, and i am very worried that whether it is about to go heaven. when first bought, it has 2.5-3 hours battery life while it is just 1 hr now. Sounds crazy, I was doubting that if i have make some mistakes when using the battery. I always leave it in the notebook though the external power adapter is connected,. Is it safe exactly?

From technical points of view online, there are three options: 1. remove the battery and only use the ac adapter to power the laptop. 2. only use the battery to keep the laptop work after it is fully charged. 3 leave the battery in all the time even when the ac adapter is connecting. both are fairly reasonable. what option will be the better way? I bought it from a 3rd party website http://www.akkuswelt.com/akku-hp-probook-4710s.htm land have asked for help, they gave me an uncertain answer.

Any thoughts? Oh... and sorry for the long post!

Solution
Leaving the battery in while constantly running from mains, will eventually kill the batteries runtime.

It is recommended to run it flat and then give it a full charge every couple of months.

If you always run it on mains, then remove the battery if it is capable of running without it present.

My work laptop spends most of its life docked, on mains and without its battery, which is still giving 100% charge after 3 years, when I need it.

The answer is NONE OF THE ABOVE. You should know when BAT charge reaches 100% the AC cuts "high current" to stop injecting energy to it and lowers the current just to keep the PC ON so IN THEORY there's nothing wrong with keeping BAT on all day.

BUT!!! If your pc has poor ventilation or CPU architecture OR you do HEAVY WORK, GAMING, VIDEO PROCESSING, anything that would HEAT UP the PC YOU SHOULD NOT KEEP BAT ON. It is HEAT from HEAVY LOADED PC that kills battery since the heat reaches it because its too close, just like your legs and weenie do if you put in in top of them.

Now, using battery when 1-10% causes "stress" on it and reduces life too, storing it with %100 will also do.

SO... remove battery when HEAVY WORK on PC and store it with charges around 40-60% if you dont use it often, like, pretty much never. I mean, long periods, like a week or more. If you use ur bat everyday then ignore the 40-60 thing.

I think they used to advocate cycling between complete charge and complete discharge, but newer technologies are supposed to be cycled between 20% and 80%. Please correct me if that is wrong.

Also: I read some years back to store (optimally) at 40% charge. It seems that is still current.

So: I cycled full capacity and had one machine shut down at 40%. I would have to re-start to continue using the battery, and I would cycle back around to 40% on the work-cycle to store the battery.

If one gets in a hurry and swaps the work/charge phase early (maybe cycling between (30% and 70% sometimes), does it degrade the battery?
