Hi there,

I just purchased a samsung 840 pro ssd, and I am trying to connect it to my sata 3 port on my Asus ph755-m/usb3 motherboard.

I set the Marvell & intel controller in the bios setting to AHCI.

I performed a migration from my HDD to SDD.

I did change the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci to 0.

When my SSD is connected to the sata 3 port. The boot setup in the Bios says that my SSD is using IDE.

The Samsung Magician Software says that AHCI is deactivated, however as mentioned above it I activated both the controllers.

When I connected the SSD to my SATA 2 port the magician software showed that my AHCI is activated but obviously the SSD wasnt using the sata 3 port.

My motherboard has been updated to the latest firmware, version 1105.

I also updated the Marvell 91XX driver V1.0.0.1045 & Marvell Controller Driver V1.0.0.1036.

Please can someone help me connect the SSD to sata 3.

Thanks.

I solved the problem after few hours searching the internet.

Apparently if you have your DVD ROM drive connected to the Marvell Sata 3 ports it effects the SSD connection.

However after I rebooted the computer and the Samsung magician software showed that the AHCI was activated and the SATA 3 is connected I got much lower benchmarking results compared to the Intel SATA 2 ports.

On the Intel SATA 2 ports using the Samsung magician software my results were:

  • Sequential Read: 281MB/s
    Sequential Write: 192MB/s
    Random Read (IOPS): 41129
    Random Write (IOPS): 31405

On the Marvell Sata 3 port my results were:

  • Sequential Read: 187MB/s
    Sequential Write: 124MB/s
    Random Read (IOPS): 29084
    Random Write (IOPS): 20765

It is a huge drop in performance when it is supposed to increase my performance between SATA 2 & 3

Can anyone instruct me on how I can improve my performance please.
