I rented a room near my college and the outlets here are two pronged. the landlord wont rewire, so I am looking for a new place, but already paid for one month so what risk am I putting on my pc by using this power and will I be risking too much for a 4 week time frame?

Hi

You are OK with most laptop power supplies which are double insulated and do not need a earth connection
look for a square symbol on rating plate

not advisable on desktop PC's

which is more valuable your PC or your life

The 3rd prong earth ground is the most important. There is a workaround, get a two to three prong adaptor, it will have a metal clasp or sometimes a short green wire, make sure the one you get does, the clasp/wire is attached to the center screw of the wall outlet plate cover, now you are grounded properly.

Assuming the electrician did his job correctly when the outlet was installed.(rare) But you did the best you can do. Enjoy!

a desktop pc is what I have, it is a high end machine, can someone please tell me the risk I am running on my pc by using this power and will I be risking too much for a 4 week time frame?

also is there anything I can do low cost to help add needed protection for this 4 week period?
