I have a asrock 4core dual sata2 motheboard and i wanted to know if its possible to install one of the most recent graphic cards(amd 7750,nvidia 650 for example)

The PCIe slot on this motherboard is PCIe 16x physical but only works at 4x

Thanks in advance for the help :)

Did by any chance someone tested this most recent graphic cards on the motherboard in question?

I read in some forums that the cards may not work on this motherboard because of the limitation of the pci-e slot

I already know i will lose performance but i just want to know if it will work

Thanks for the answer smeezekitty :)

Well, to answer this, we need the exact mobo model at least.

You may want to do some research, but i think the via chipset only supports PCI-E 1.0. Recent cards are only downward compatible to PCI-E 1.1.

yeah, thats what im afraid off,if there is no downward compatibility my chance to upgrade only the graphic card dissapears and i will have to wait a few more months to change all the system (mobo, cpu, ram and gpu)

Thanks for the help noidea_77 :)

The cpu would bottleneck the graphics card anyway. :)

True, but my idea was to upgrade now the gpu and in a few months upgrade the rest of the components, even with bottleneck it would be better then the Radeon 1600Pro that im using (i had a ATI HD 4760 but that one died :(  ) .

With this Graphic card i cant even run Final Fantasy Realm Reborn benchmark and i really wanted to play that game from launch.

I bought last friday MSI GTX650/1GDDR5/PCIe 3.0, I checked on Asrock4Core and the motherboard didn't start, only fans start moving. Test also with HD7770 Vapor-X, same negative result.
Both graphic cards works fine on ASUS P5WS64/sk775.

It won't work. I have an Asrock 4coreDual-vsta which is identical to your motherboard except for the sata2. I recently bought an AMD R9 270x graphics card and the motherboard cannot boot with the card installed. They are not compatible. On mine too, the cooling fans start but the motherboard doesn't boot at all. I am planning to buy a new motherboard now. Looks like due to this I will have to upgrade cpu and ram too.
