I'm having connection issues with my new computer. I just did a fresh install of windows 7.
The Windows Update is giving me error 80244022, which I think has to do with connecting to microsoft's servers. At the same time, I've been trying to install Steam with no luck. It installs fine, but won't update. It just opens the update window and freezes at zero percent.
I'm thinking the two are related and indicate a larger problem, but I'm not sure. Please help.

Yeah, I'm reading this thread on the computer. Some sites don't load(windows support, steam, etc) and other take a long time to load.
But I definitely have some connection. I should have mentioned, I installed windows 7 raw. I already installed the drivers for my network adapter.

Windows is activated. There were a few exclamation marks in device manager. I fixed those and restarted. Still no luck. There's stuff in event log, but I really don't know what I'm looking at. I have a few about the browser service being unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master.

Are you using your own Internet connection, or somebody else's?
- Steam and Windows Update are the first two things self respecting Networks Admins block.
- Lying about this will just waste a lot of your own time (I'm not returning to this thread, just leaving a reminder for others).

It's my own network.

No luck with the Fix it installer, even on aggressive settings.
I just ran the MGA Diagnostic, maybe the answer is in that. Here's my results.
