Question on old parts

I have several older computer parts/computers (taken apart) in a box. I was thinking I could put these parts together and build a new computer or build 2 new computers.

Upon some research, one of the computers is an AMD Socket 939 processor-so evidently that's out. The other one is a Socket AM2, and I guess that's also apparently ancient?

I would have to get a new processor and motherboard, but is it worth re-using any of the other old parts?, or should I just start all over with brand new stuff?

I have all these working parts, but both motherboards died.

If both the boards are dead, your wasting your time. Check the am2 chip to see what it is. If its faster than 5000+ you could make a basic work box with it, if you can still get boards (amd guys will tell you) If the 939 cpu is 4800+ you could sell it on feebay for $10, or so but you wont purchase a working board , and it isnt worth trying. If its a 3800+ or lower its scrap.

I have 2 old computers & all their parts. The first one (a socket 939) is an Acer Aspire with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor 4200+, 4 GB DDR ram, 250gb SATA HDD, and a ATI "VisionTek" X300SEH 256MB, and DVD burner. I think I can re-use the case because the back plate pops out and accepts a new one for the USB ports and such.

The 2nd one is a Dell Inspiron 546 (from 2009), I don't know the exact spec's but it's an AMD, and came with a brand new "VisionTek" Radeon 3650 512MB PCIe, and 4 2GB sticks of brand new Dell ram..they say PC2-6400u.

I also have a brand new case in the box.

ALSO, the socket 939 board isn't completely dead. I got the computer for free and was told it needed a MOBO. I got it home & found it needed a battery, and when it has more than 2 sticks of ram in it, it freezes. No matter what ram you put in, once you put one in the 3rd or 4th slot-it will freeze.

You could buy an intell g860 dual core, an asus matx board and 4 gig of 1333 ram for about $150 and re use the 3650 , the sata hard drive and the burner. It would function at the lower resolution end of games and you could improve it piecemeal later. But the whole system suggested would be slightly better value as , i suspect you dont have an o/system.

The i3 looks good, but I bet there is no graphics card in there, and the psu probably wont handle one. Other than that its a deal you wont get in the u.k.

The problem is Win7. I could take these parts and build something decent for an office...or even for myself, I basically just use mine for internet and typing the occasional document.

BUT, win7 is $100...so it makes it not even worth it.
