Hey there,
I currently have a MSi 990FXA-GD65 MB with a 8120 Bulldozer Cpu.
I feel that these 8 Cores are very weak and would like to upgrade these to get better performance out of my PC for future games coming out. I would keep my motherboard and just upgrade my CPU but most of the other AMD CPUs they provide will not run on my MB.

If anything I guess it does not have to be an AMD MB and CPU I just want the best bang for my buck. Im hoping to do this for a under 400$. Would appreciate any money saving/combo deals all that as well as any advice or opinions. Ty for you time and any help :)

Do you think you can tell me why you picked this specific CPU? Like do you know how it is with gaming and being overclocked?

Actually, I was about to do a checkout and buy the CPU but I have to do a In-Store Pickup and there is not a store in my area and no Delivery option. Any other CPU?

The K in Intel i5 4670K means it was pretty much made to be overclocked

Ahh alright, And if you could educate me if i'm wrong but I'm looking at the AMD FX-6350 Vishera and it seems to be able to run at great speeds and have a deal with a MB for 206.98. What do you think of it?

Given that you seem to upgrade somewhat more often and appear to have no patience for hardware showing even the slightest bit of age then perhaps you're like me.

See I don't get the point of LGA 1156/1155/1150. They really offer ZERO upgrade path. I mean what is an upgrade from an i5 2500K to an i5 3570K? I mean even the upgrade from i5 2500K and i7 3770K isn't that great in terms of getting a good enough return on the investment.

Now upgrading from say a Core i7 3820 to say a 4930K now that sounds more like it IMO. So if you're going to upgrade that system you might as well get something that makes it worth the effort.

Socket LGA 2011.

Core i7 3820 $299.99

eVGA X79 SLI: $169.99

At least then the platform will have a decent upgrade path. Just a thought. If this is over budget then maybe just swing for a better CPU. Something like an FX-8350 comes to mind.

Well do you think you can pick out a different CPU for the one you provided and the site for that price they require a local pickup and I do not have a store pickup in my location

Yeah was a little over budget for my time being. I mean do you think just going for the Intel parts you provided are worth it? Or just getting the 8350?

Well, tbh, moving from an i7 3930K to an FX-8350 (both at 4.5GHz) doesn't feel much different. I mean I have both machines and I don't notice all that much difference between the two. It is only when I am encoding/transcoding using x.264 that I notice the difference due to the extra hour it takes on the FX-8350. In gaming? Don't notice it.

So yeah I'd say an FX-8350 is a good choice. I mean it does boost AMDs per core performance over the FX-8150 bu a noticeable enough margin when encoding and doing other heavy tasks.
